I teach one-to-one, private lessons on digital photography at $50/hour. I will travel and meet you at the location of your choosing.

My lessons are customized to meet your personal needs and will help you understand your camera. If you have always wanted to go you beyond "program" or automatic mode, NOW is the time to get started. We can include any or all of the following topics:

For beginners: an overview of digital photography: everything from jpeg settings, exposure compensation to white balance.

Buying a new camera? Get the features you need and stay within your budget.

Camera menus: ISO, flash, histograms, workflow, etc

Lighting and composition: the foundation of photography

Portfolio critique: a review of your strong and weak areas

Camera handling skills: We go to your preferred shooting location. You take pictures. I watch your technique and offer constructive feedback. I look at your exposure, sharpness, composition, etc. If you have any questions, I can answer them immediately. Compared to an on-line, ten-week course of emailing photos and waiting for a response from an instructor, this saves you time and money and is less frustrating.

How much camera do I need? I'm just a beginner and don't know much.

A simple point & shoot camera is adequate for beginner's  lessons. Here, a young girl and her father (my Amtrak traveling companions) are learning how a little Canon Powershot camera can be used to take portraits. Instant feedback from the digital camera helps you learn about photography much faster.

"I like to photograph nature. Can I take my lessons outdoors?" Certainly. Whatever your tastes or genre, be it environmental portrait, urban landscape, close-up/macro, wildlife, etc., we can visit a productive site of your choice. And, if you are a Nikon or Canon shooter, I will provide a variety of lenses and camera bodies for you to try, based on your photographic vision.
